What gives you direction in life?
Welcome back to the Turbine Traveler! I’m so happy that you took the time out of your day to read my blog post(s). Thank you.
I use Jetpack to manage 90% of this blog website, and the app will give daily writing prompts to help progress bloggers entering this space. And this question popped up and made me think.
Just as the title says, yes it is the Lord. But I want to dive more into why He gives me direction and how I listen to Him.
Now you are probably saying to yourself, “Why are you taking a turn and talking about God?” And my answer to that question would be, “What kind of person would I have to be to not spread the good news?”
I want to be open and honest here; I have trouble listening to the Lord. I am no perfect person and I am full of sin. I have trouble following every commandment. I want to get this opened and presentable towards the beginning of this post because I want the readers to know that you don’t have to be perfect for God to show you mercy.
“[…] I have called you by your name; You are Mine.”
Isaiah 43:1
If you read through the Old Testament, there is a pattern that you pick up. When God or even maybe an angel comes into view of a person they start off with either two sayings; “Fear not […]” or “Do not be afraid […].” This tells at least myself that God wants a relationship with each and every one of his children and to not be frightened.
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place[…]”
Matthew 6:6
Matthew chapter six carves out the model prayer. Prayer is something I struggle with daily. I either find myself forgetting to praise the Lord or ask for help. And when I go days, weeks, or months without prayer I find myself doing these short “May-Day” prayers. Where I’m alone and I’m almost yelling at God because I’m frustrated with the ways things are going. When I have these spurts I feel the distance between myself and the Lord. Prayer is a way for us to connect with God. You should be honest and open when you pray. Show God your heart and He will give what is good. Matthew chapter 6 verse 8 tells us that God already knows what we need. He knows what each and everyone on of us need to accomplish His work.
Now that we have established that prayer is a great way for you to get in contact with the Lord. Now lets talk about how we gives me direction. The other week I was having a bad day, a really bad day and I decided to not go with the work crew out to eat as a team. This bothered one of my coworkers and they reached out to me. After about 15 minutes of banter over text message I drove home in tears, yes tears. I may be a man but I do still have feelings and find myself trying to stop boiling over with emotions. When I arrived home I got down on my knees and prayed. I asked God many things, either verbally or non verbally. I cried so much I don’t think I had any water left in my body. I sat down after the prayer to try and collect myself. And that same person I was texting earlier reached out again in a beautiful manner that made me cry again but in tears of joy. God answers prayers, it could be tomorrow, a year or even years. God answered my prayers that day, He saw that I was in distress and He placed a hand on me and showed me mercy.
Answers to prayers are not always God directly talking to you, it can be a stranger on the street or something at your work. Always look for God’s word.
Thank you again for taking the time to read my blog post! It truly means the world to me!
