“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
Matthew 6:31
Welcome back to the Turbine Traveler! I am a wind technician who travels around working on wind turbines. I am truly grateful that you took the time out of your day to read my posts, it truly means the world to me. Like the above verse, Jesus is speaking to those who worry. Our Father in heaven knows what we need and He provides.
I find myself having a hard time staying positive. Now it could just be how hot it has been or maybe I just have a bad outlook on things. Which personally I think it is both. I get in a bad mood sometimes and I don’t know what the root cause is. I pray and strive to be better, but I still get into an upset mindset that brings me and my fellow friends down. Now I don’t like being mad, trust me I get mad for just being mad. I have taken some steps to try and calm down and work on not being in control of everything. I don’t know if I get it from heritage, but I do worry. When I worry I start to run endless scenarios throughout my mind and then I get mad or upset at the outcome.

The start of the week has been slow, mostly having stand-by days because of the weather. In this industry we are very dependent on the weather like wind and precipitation being the major ones. We can work in the rain, it does create its own problems, it is the lightning we cannot work in. Now OSHA, Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration, doesn’t have a specific standard for lightning. They do however have a standard in their ‘General Duty Clause’ stating that an employer must ensure a workplace that is free from hazards that can cause injury or even death. Most wind companies follow the 30:30 rule. What that means is if lightning is within 30 miles of you, you must wait 30 minutes after the last recorded strike before work can continue. Being up in the air at 300 feet or having a crane that sticks up farther than the turbine sometimes can be a real hazard when lightning is present.

Tuesday night through Wednesday morning is when we hit the ground running! We already had everything down and the goal was to lift everything back up. Starting from the inside out we lifted the drive train up there then the lid and finally the whole rotor. This was my first with some of the lifting beams, we as a team took our time and made sure that when we lift, nothing was going to happen. it was a long day, we started in the afternoon and didn’t quit until the early morning hours. I have been blessed for being placed on such a bada** crew with people who take the time to teach new people.
Thursday is when I started to feel sluggish. After working almost a night shift and having to go back in early, but we were able to get everything done and finish our reports.
I want to go off on a little story here, back when I was a kid I always dreamt of either being a meteorologist or a police officer. Which was weird because I was taking apart old remotes and television sets because I was curious on how everything worked. Going through my teen years I was still taking everything apart but since I had a job I could get in trouble with buying stuff. So I bought a motor for my bicycle, now it never worked but the idea was there. But now that I am a wind turbine technician I find myself using those skills of taking things apart to come in hand when I’m working. Constantly I am working on either taking apart or installing something on a turbine.

Thursday I got the notification from Jetpack that I received 10 likes on my posts!!! Wow, seriously thank you to each and everyone of you who has taken the time not only to read my posts but also like them.
Friday was a very mellow day, we loaded trucks up for shipping and moved everything over to another turbine. Now I can’t share what we are doing but it is something that I don’t do very often and is always a learning experience for me. Which I am very grateful for because if I didn’t so these special one off jobs then I wouldn’t excel in my career. We closed out the week by building everything at the turbine pad and prepping the tower. The real fun starts next week, stay tuned.
Thank you again to everyone who takes the time out of their day to read my posts. I cannot express enough how grateful I am that you have read my posts. Please do not hesitate to like, comment, and subscribe. I put out weekly posts about what I am doing while traveling.
Stay safe! God Bless.
