Wk 2 | More Driving, Less Turbines

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NKJV

Welcome back to the Turbine Traveler! Starting off, I want to thank each and every one of you who reads my posts; you have no idea how much it truly means to me. This week has been full of downtime and, honestly, a bit of boredom. I did change the layout of the posts! Let me know down in the comments what you like and down like about it! But hey, let’s get into it anyway!

Weekly Recap

Sunday & Monday

With everything finally arriving at the new turbine site, you’d think we’d be getting to work, right? Well, turns out there’s a crane issue, so we’re currently on standby until further notice.

On Sunday, I made sure to call my dad for Father’s Day. It is always good to catch up and let him know he’s appreciated. We spent most of it catching up of things like an issue he is having with his motorcycle and the U.S. Open. Simple call, but a good one.

On Monday, we still went in to review the job and go over some documentation. In a job like this, making sure everyone’s on the same page before the work starts is key, especially when safety and coordination are involved.

Tuesday

With the delay dragging on, some of us have been split up to tackle various tasks. I got sent to the main office to pick up tools and equipment. I also make it a mission to grab some of the new company “swag” that recently dropped. So, my day? Pretty much just driving.. and more driving.

Wednesday

Wednesday kicked off with, you guessed it, more driving. I made the trip down to Lubbock, Texas to pick up the on-demand water heater I ordered Tuesday night. It wasn’t cheap, but I figure it’ll pay off quickly. Cold showers might be refreshing after a hot day in the sun, but on standby days? That water bites.

Since every RV has a different sized cutout, I had to order a separate door for the unit. It should arrive sometime Thursday.

Once I got back to the camper, I started tearing out the old water heater, which was easier said than done. RVs are built like puzzles, and while Im not a big guy, I’m not exactly small either. Crawling into that cupboard felt like squeezing into a vent shaft. Eventually, I went over a knocked on the neighbors door for some help once everything started to come loose. The unit itself isn’t heavy just needs someone to push while the other pulls. Once it was out I had to cover the opening and call it a day since the door for the unit wouldn’t be in until Thursday.

Thursday

The overnight from Wednesday to Thursday was dragging on. I couldn’t sleep, constantly worrying about the missing water heater and if the door I ordered was the wrong one. I drove down to Lubbock once again to pick up this door. It looked to be about the correct size but I couldn’t tell until I was standing outside my camper. And it fit! I was so excited, so I got to work. Once the unit was in and secure I was down with the outside part of the install. Now working outside, yeah it may be hot but you have plenty of room to move around (most of the time). Inside you get luxury of the air conditioning, but not a lot of room to work with. I was able to get all the water lines hooked up and the one gas line. No leaks, I was very impressed with myself. Hooked up the electrical and gave it a first time use…. Now I have hot water! I jumped up in joy and started thanking God. He gave the skills to complete this job and without Him I don’t think I would have been able to complete it.

Friday & Saturday

Friday we all went into work to talk with the customer about what the issues we were facing. Nothing major, but they did get the crane fixed! So currently they are building the crane and we are getting everything ready for the big day.

Let’s Wrap it Up!

This past week was filled with boredom, but I was able to accomplish a lot with the RV. Thank you to everyone who reads my posts, it truly means the world to me!
